A MORE SUSTAINABLE WAY OF LIVING

A TALK GIVEN BY JONATHAN ESSEX

AT THE QUAKER FRIENDS MEETING HOUSE, THE STREET, CAPEL

WEDNESDAY 4TH NOVEMBER AT 7.30PM

Jonathan works for an environmental charity called BioRegional, setting up projects that create new jobs and reuse building materials. He has previously worked in Bangladesh and Vietnam as an engineer on aid projects. Jonathan also chairs Sustainable Redhill, and is the Green Party’s prospective parliamentary candidate for Reigate.

Jonathan will start the meeting with a short presentation of current climate impacts drawing on his recent experiences of working in Bangladesh and the Sudan. The talk will focus on what we can do together here in Capel, Mole Valley and Surrey. We all are aware that to act to stop climate change, we cannot continue with business as usual. The changes needed, can lead to better more fulfilling lives, building stronger communities in inspiring ways. Action on climate change means living better with less impact. The evening will set out practical and inspiring ways in which we can act. Local actions can make a difference, but are new approaches needed?

1. Apple Collection for juicing – already 70 kilos collected and 48 bottles of juice on sale

2.Adopt an apple tree-  linking willing pickers with owners with abundant apple trees they can’t harvest

3. Our proposed new allotments at Temple Lane – 15 people and families have already signed up.
